County Legislature Candidates

Brian May – Legislative District 1

Brian represents the 1st Legislative District which includes Lysander and part of Van Buren in Baldwinsville. Known for his pragmatic and traditionally conservative approach to local governance, Brian is an independent voice for all residents of his district and across Onondaga County.

Kevin Meaker – Legislative District 2

Kevin J. Meaker decided to run for Onondaga County Legislature because he wanted to be able to work on important issues that affect people’s lives and help shape the future of our community. First elected in November 2023, Kevin Meaker is now serving as the District 2 representative.

Tim Burtis – Legislative District 3

Timothy T. Burtis joined the Onondaga County Legislature in 2015 after serving as a Deputy Supervisor and a Town Board Member in the Town of Cicero. In 2024, he was chosen by his peers as Chairman of the Legislature, a leadership role earned through hard work, collaboration and a desire to see the best for the people of Onondaga County.

Colleen Gunnip Legislative District 4

Colleen Gunnip’s term began in January of 2022 after a successful campaign for County Legislature in 2021. Colleen has over 40 years of government experience and before her time on the Legislature, Colleen was a Town Councilor and Town Supervisor in the Town of Salina.

David Carnie Legislative District 5

David Carnie – District 5 – David Carnie joined the Salina Town Board in 2020, bringing five years of experience from the town level to the county. David Carnie has specialized in commercial real estate services for more than 12 years and has been with Pyramid Brokerage Company since 2013.

Julie Abbott Legislative District 6

Julie is a former TV News Anchor, passionate advocate, community leader, and most importantly to her: the mother of 5 boys currently working as a Real Estate agent with Howard Hanna Realty. As the Onondaga County Legislator representing District 6 for over 7 years, Julie has championed millions of dollars in funding for updating our village centers, supporting global investment in the historic Micron Technologies development, investing in small business including agri-tourism.

Shawn Fiato Legislative District 8

Shawn Fiato was appointed to the Legislature in January 2025 by County Executive Ryan McMahon. She is a life-long Syracuse resident. Shawn has resided in the Park Avenue neighborhood for nearly 40 years. Shawn and her husband started the Park Avenue Neighborhood Association more than 20 years ago

Bonnke Sekarore Legislative District 9

Bonnke Sekarore, came to America as a refugee from the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) when he was a young child. He had spent the age 7-10 living in a tent at a UN Refugee Camp in Burundi, fleeing violent and genocidal persecution. Calling the Northside home as he grew up in our community, Bonnke worked hard, learned English, and attended city schools, where he graduated as Fowler High School’s Valedictorian in 2016.

Mark Olson Legislative District 10

Mark Olson joined the Onondaga County Legislature in 2022, bringing nearly two decades of elected office experience to bear. He served as the Mayor of the Village of Fayetteville from 2004 until 2024 and has been a member of the Fayetteville Fire Department since he was 14 years old.

Rich McCaron Legislative District 11

Rich McCarron attended Lemoyne College then proudly served our community as a Deputy Sheriff Police Officer in Onondaga County for 20 years. After retiring in 2011 he established a successful residential real estate business servicing buyers and sellers in Central New York. In 2022 Rich was appointed to the Onondaga County Legislature to represent the 11th District.

Dave Knapp Legislative District 12

Dave Knapp has been serving on the Onondaga County Legislature since 2012, where he’s taken on leadership roles including Chairman of the Legislature, Majority Leader and Ways & Means Committee Chair. Currently, he’s Chair of the Planning & Economic Development Committee, Vice Chair of the County Facilities Committee and a member of the Ways & Means Committee.

Ken Bush Legislative District 13

As a County Legislator, I am proud to represent Camillus, Baldwinsville-Van Buren and Jordan-Elbridge areas which comprise the 13th District. It has been an honor to serve you. As a former Town Supervisor, I have a passion for local government and the residents in the district I represent. I strive to enhance an equal partnership between town & village governments and the County.

Cody Kelly Legislative District 14

Cody Kelly is a lifelong resident of the 14th District. He graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High School in 2009, and received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2016. As a Physical Therapist, Dr. Kelly works with children all over Onondaga County. Providing home-based care has allowed Dr. Kelly to witness firsthand some of the issues affecting people across different communities, like the effects of poverty
